Discover Bruce Asbestos’s Eye of Newt, originally showcased at Museum Siam, now will be displayed exclusively at W Bangkok until the end of the Biennale (28 February 2025). This captivating installation features oversized, wobbly eyeballs that feel straight out of a kids’ theme park. Inspired by frogspawn and the magic of transformation, their tactile, playful design invites visitors to physically engage, reconnecting with the basic building blocks of nature.

But there’s more beneath the surface. The repeated, factory-like appearance of the eyes hints at industrial alienation, while the eye itself becomes a symbol of ominous power. Drawing from Macbeth, Asbestos uses the title Eye of Newt to suggest bold, subversive ways to challenge that power.

As part of the Biennale this piece exemplifies the theme Nurture Gaia, seamlessly blending playfulness with profound reflections on our relationship with nature and industry.

Supported by British Council Thailand and Bangkok Art Biennale.
